...And the 2023 “tierce de Picardie” Award goes to...
This year’s 2023 “tierce de Picardie” Award is being given to all Octogenarians, Nonagenarians, and Centenarians.
Recently, I was awakened to the reality of being an Octogenarian when asked in a phone conversation, ”When did you retire?” My answer, with laughter, was of one who has not retired, but rather has put new “tread” on my “worn tyres”.
We are an Army of performers, artists, and educators (whether in person or perhaps silently in spirit) who are actively preparing the next musical generation through financial and/or emotional support, with the objective of helping them realize their goals.
Naming a few artists who have recently appeared in the News: Composer/Conductors John Williams, and Quincy Jones, Actor/Entertainer Dick Van Dyke, Vocal Artist Dionne Warwick, Ballerina Madame Suzelle Poole,Opera Singer Grace Bumbry [my Sigma Alpha Iota (ΣΑΙ) Sister], and many more.
Question: When will we stop (“stand down”)? Answer: NEVER! Our work will continue to be carried forward forever and likened to “a refreshing wind blowing towards the future”!
N. B.: The “tierce de Picardie” Award is given to those who are often seen as “minor” in a performance. Yet, when the final chord is struck during the cadence of the piece, said “minor” transform into “major” players, performers, and/or voices in our Musical society today; bringing a myriad of colours, intensities and overtones of a musical pallete to the forefront.
